Having worked 22 years for a large global corporation, Linda decided to leave a successful career and develop as an artist — her life-long dream. Returning to school, Linda earned an Associate in Fine Arts and continued to hone her artistic skills through classes and workshops. For several years, Linda drew upon her interest in nature to create sculptures and reliefs in clay. In her quest to make two-dimensional art with clay, she discovered clay monoprints while training with Mitch Lyons, the artist known internationally for pioneering the process.

Although Linda has moved from representational to abstract art, her fascination with clay still influences her acrylic and mixed media paintings. Striving to bring more texture and relief into her paintings, her recent work involves adding burlap or parts of her clay monoprints to her acrylic paintings, creating added depth, texture and intrigue. In these paintings, acrylic mediums are used to “sculpt” the image prior to painting. This relief reveals shapes and contours that Linda strives to enhance, rather than control, allowing the piece to take on a life of its own. The combination of layers of colors along with the shadows and movement of the texture gives the paintings an expressive energy.

Her work has a distinctive movement, flow or “dance” with the medium. Whether painting or working in clay, Linda strives to capture the emotion and energy she feels when creating a piece.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

"I’m most productive and creative when solving a problem. I constantly challenge myself in my artwork as well as the medium in which I work. The higher the risk, the more I’m motivated. I try to be fearless.

Sharing my art is extremely important to me. It encourages people to ask questions, introspect, think about new ideas, experience fresh new perspectives and most importantly, it encourages us to take brief moments out of our busy lives to reflect on something outside of our daily routine.

Art also stimulates conversation, dialogue and interchange, even between total strangers who might never otherwise say a single word to each other. It gives people permission to share thoughts, feelings, ideas and impressions that they might not ordinarily share."
